I had the pleasure of going to the Carlsbad Flower Fields a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. For those of you that don’t know, I didn’t start out photographing people. I’m naturally an introvert despite my internet persona lol, so when I first started out in photography, I was only photographing flowers and nature. Honestly, if you had told me in the beginning that I would photograph strangers I would have laughed, but I digress.
So I actually went to the Carlsbad Flower Fields in 2019 for the very first time. I’d only had my camera for a few months by that point. I had had my camera for a little over year by this point. When I visited in 2019, I went to participate in Canon’s Photography Day. I was able to borrow a macro lens and play around with that lens. I remember having a lot of fun and trying to get creative with some of my shots.
Fast forward two years and I return to the Flower Fields. This time I am using an entirely different camera system and I have my own macro lens. With COVID this year, the experience was a little different. I had to pre-purchase my ticket as there was only a limited amount of people that were allowed in the flower fields during each time slot. I picked the earliest time slot because I wanted to try and beat the crowds. It was a lovely day outside…not too hot and not too cold…plus plenty of sun.
This was actually a much needed break for me. While I love photographing my clients and helping them feel awesome about themselves, it takes a lot of me and I’ve pretty much had at least one session every week for the past few months (plus working the 9-to-5). Getting to just spend time photographing flowers (and some bumblebees) was a nice opportunity to kinda turn off my brain and just have some fun.
I hope you enjoy these pretty flowers as much as I do!
