Your girl is tired lol. As I’m writing this, I have just wrapped up a “flying dresses in the desert” photoshoot. This photoshoot has been in the works for a while. If you have read one of my previous posts, I discuss my love of flying dresses and talk about my first run with these dresses. This photoshoot was a full-on production. I created headpieces and gave each model a separate theme: red queen, sea queen, queen bee, and fairy queen.
I was up late the last two nights before the shoot getting everything ready. I made a special headpiece for the sea queen, red queen, and queen bee. I decided to drive out to the desert the night before since I did not want to get up at like 1:00 AM to drive two and a half hours to the desert. I’ve been going at like 110% for the past few days and now my body is like chill lol.
So it was me, Q of Q88 Photography, and Justeen that were the photographers on the set. Tanzania, Alaysia, Brenda, and Seraya were the awesome models. Q and I even had our spouses come out and help us with this shoot (there was a lot of dress throwing lol). From my previous flying dresses post, I had already worked with Tanzania and Alaysia. This was my first time working with Brenda and Seraya as models.
It ended up that me, Q, Justeen (two other photographers), and all the models ending up driving out the day before. We ended up staying at Brawley Inn in Brawley, CA. Brawley is about 30 minutes away from the desert. I had stayed there before when I first came out to the desert. When I arrived, I ended up having to finish putting together the queen bee and red queen headpieces. I also had to iron all of the dresses as it would have been pointless to iron them before leaving. I finished up ironing most of the dresses around midnight and woke up at 3:00 AM to finish ironing the last dress.
We ended up leaving the hotel around 4:45 AM to head to the desert. It took about 30 minutes to get there and we arrived about 15 minutes prior to sunrise. When we got there…it was a mad dash to get all of the ladies dressed before it got too hot. I got everyone dressed around 5:45 AM and we started shooting.
One of the reasons I chose a sunrise session was because it was going to be like 81 degrees at sunrise. You heard me right…81 degrees…at 5:30 AM. When we arrived it wasn’t that hot and there was a nice breeze. This was such a fun shoot. The dresses looked absolutely amazing against the desert backdrop. The colors really popped against the sand. Each model had a distinct look and I thought it was fabulous. Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves and have a good time.
