I often have a lot people ask me how do I stay motivated with a 9-to-5, small business, and family. Let me tell you, it is not an easy thing to do and I don’t always do it perfectly lol. That being said, I wanted to share some things I do to keep myself motivated and organized.
- I utilize a planner. So I have to have a planner in order to keep my life together. Some people can remember everything without writing it down, but I am not that person. My memory is horrible so if I don’t write something down, I won’t remember it. In the past, I used The Happy Planner. This year, I decided to go with The Black Queen Planner…because you know, Black Queen Photography lol. I also utilize my CRM, Honeybook, to keep track of my schedule as well. I 1000% recommend that you utilize some type of planner in order to keep track of everything.
- I make sure to photograph creative projects. I have to do creative projects every now and then. This keeps me motivated with my photography. Don’t get me wrong, I love bringing my clients’ visions to life, but sometimes I want to stretch my creative muscles and photograph a concept that is a bit outside of the box.
- I set actionable and achievable goals. One of the quickest ways for me to get discouraged is when I feel like I’m making progress. That is why I must set actionable and achievable goals. When I set these type of goals and can see the progress I make towards achieving them it is much easier for me to stay motivated. I try to set monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals.
- I take breaks from work. So this is essential for me to stay motivated. I can very much be a workaholic and very selfish with my time. It is too easy for me to get wrapped up in work. I make sure to schedule time to spend with my family. I know that can seem kinda clinical to schedule time to spend with family, but if I don’t, I can easily go a week without having spent a lot of time with them. I never want my work (whether that is the 9-to-5 or small business) to make my family feel like I don’t care about them.
So there you have it. Those are just a few ways that I stay motivated with a 9-to-5, small business, and family.

[…] Schedule. How often will you be posting? Have a basic schedule in place that you can start building on. I try and post on Instagram at least 3 to 6 times per week. I also just started a 30 day challenge of trying to post to Reels for the next 30 days…wish me luck lol. I write my social media posting schedule in my planner to help me stay on track. […]
