Black Girl Magic in the Desert! So I had the pleasure of photographing the stunning Tiffany for her birthday. I actually photographed her mother’s 50th birthday about a year ago. Tiffany reached out and wanted to do her birthday session at Glamis. For those of you that don’t know, Glamis is a desert location about two and a half hours outside of San Diego, CA. Glamis is also known as the Imperial Sand Dunes and the Algodones Dunes. I was definitely excited when she reached out because I had wanted to shoot there for awhile…I just couldn’t justify driving all the way out there for no reason lol.
We decided to shoot pretty close to sunrise (about 7:00 AM) just to avoid the heat of the desert. I ended up leaving San Diego around 4:00AM to make sure I wasn’t late. I ended up traveling through some mountains. Let me tell you, driving through mountain passes you’ve never driven through when it is still dark is no fun lol, but I made it safely.
When I arrived it was absolutely gorgeous. I fell in love with the look of the sand dunes. The only thing I wasn’t thrilled about was the fact that the sky had a hazy look to it. I always love interesting skies, so I was a bit disappointed in the one we had that day. One of my favorite photographers Que of QueEighty8 Photography met me out there to help me out with lighting.
Tiffany came ready to slay this day. I absolutely loved her hair and makeup. She ended up bringing two amazing outfits. The first was this cute orange and blue two-piece outfit. The top was a crop top with these cool sleeves and the bottom was a skirt. The color of the outfit helped her stand out against the tan sand and tannish sky.
One of the fun things about this session is that we got to shoot with both flash (as above) and natural light. Of course, she looks spectacular in both.
The second outfit that she brought was this gorgeous dark red flowy dress. I loved how it pop against the tan desert. Now if y’all don’t know…I love a good flowy dress. She looked like a straight goddess.
And of course I had to get a few photos of her and her husband. They were so cute together with their Jersey smiles lol. Every time I got ready to take their photo, they would give me a blue steel look lol.
But seriously, I loved photographing them together. They were so comfortable together in front of the camera.
I liked the sand dunes so much that I actually plan to head out there again this month for a very cool photo shoot…stay tuned!
